Out of Touch

Out of Touch is a 62-page publication that explores cultural disconnect among people with differing nationalities and ethnicities. I conducted a series of interviews with my friends, who shared their intimate experiences and shed light on why our generation may face difficulty in maintaining cultural identity.

Family photos were an integral design element in providing a sense of nostalgia, and depicting how cultural connectivity becomes brittle over time. The purpose of this project was to inspire discussion and encourage readers to reflect on their level of cultural identity.

Excerpt: I am in the majority in New Zealand, being European Pakeha, where I haven’t had to experience any form of racial or xenophobic abuse. My Nagy Papa and Nagy Bácsi’s however, looked quite ethnic and were the victims of some xenophobic abuse like being spat at on in the streets for being refugees and they got blamed for starting WWII, even though they were all children when war broke out.
